Earthenware

I am doing an Ignite Talk of my own on earthenware for one of my classes this semester. These are the pieces of earthenware I made that I will be using as live examples. The two fired pieces, the mini goblet and the larger bowl, are pieces that I made last summer with a good friend. The two unfired pieces, the lipped bowl and shallow bowl, were made this past weekend in Paisley, Ontario. I hope to fire the two green pieces once my presentation is completed later this spring.

Exhibit

This is my very first exhibit. The exhibit is based upon the artifact I had to work with this semester, a 19th century cork press from a pharmacy in Peterborough. What you are seeing is four months of work. I’m quite happy with how it looks. For a first time, it’s good.

This only makes sense if you know what off-gassing it. It’s a fun word.

Bear Poo

I spent my reading week at my girlfriend’s place and noticed garbage strewn everywhere, a hole torn into her plastic garbage bin, and a pile of bear crap, around her place. This was my first time ever seeing bear crap, so it’s kinda cool to see. It’s huge!! The bear came back two days later to do more of the same. The landlord’s father bought the place in 1957 and this is the first time that they’ve had bears so close. Winter is approaching, so the bears are most likely just doing a quick fattening up. Either way, it was cool to get to see something from an animal I’ve never really seen up close in the wild.

Snake

This weekend was spent at Deer Rock and Flinton area with my girlfriend and her parents. It was a reminder of how awesome nature was. While we were walking along the waterfront, I saw a twig that turned out to not be a twig at all. It was a water snake in the process of swallowing a very recently caught frog. It was my first time seeing a water snake and also first seeing a snake eat a frog! Nature is awesome!

Mushroom

I was outside, playing with my smart phone, when I stumbled across this mushroom growing near the fence line. It is about the size of a softball, is short in height, and has a wide and thick cap. Anybody know what type it isÉ (my question mark key quit working).
